How we shot a video commercial of Foldable Cart
The team at our photography studio are dad hands when it comes to videography, too.
Recently we put our skills to good use shooting an Amazon product demo video. Because we do so many product photography shoots for Amazon sellers, we were already versed on the platform’s strict requirements. This time, our goal was to capture photos and demo videos for a foldable cart.
E-commerce photography and videography
The product had just been developed and was fresh to the market. This is a vulnerable time for any new consumer product so we knew that our client needed to hit the ground running, so to speak. Often, the best way to do this by leveraging the reach large platforms such as Amazon have.

So the foldable carts would make a splash among shoppers, high-quality images and demo videos were essential. Most e-commerce platforms stipulate rules and requirements for posted media, so we had to work within those guidelines.
After discussions, we decided to shoot the video with a white background. White has a distinct advantage over other colors, it blends into the website’s own background and removes distractions. Shoppers can then focus on the product and the product only.
What we needed to showcase with this foldable cart was its unique functionality. Our client invented the product and holds a utility patent for it, so it was essential we showcased what made it so special.
Because the foldable carts were to be sold on both the client’s own website and on Amazon, the white background we chose was perfect to fit Amazon’s video regulations.
Lights, camera, roll the cart in!
After receiving our brief and discussing the client’s needs, we immediately got to work setting up the studio for the two separate shoots (photography and videography) following our usual, tried and tested checklist: Get the product to the studio; create a model casting call for the shoots; schedule both shoots in the studio; create a script; and prepare the voice over.
When the scheduled photoshoot day rolled around, we got to work setting up our lights, cameras, computers, cables, and all the stuff we needed to shoot photos. When that was done, we had to pull down our lighting setup and switch to a videography-friendly one.
We decided to shoot the video on our beloved Blackmagic Cinema Camera 4K BMPCC. We also decided to use the ProRes format for reliable shareability and high-quality imaging. The hard work paid off, once we delivered the video to our client, they were more than satisfied with the final result. They were also happy with the photographs, a job well done all round!
