Slippers Photography for an Amazon Seller
Around a year ago we received an order for slippers photography from one of our clients . They had 100 pairs of slippers and needed high-quality images of each pair so they could be sold on Amazon.
Now, shoe photography is something we do a lot of here at ISA AYDIN, and making images that are suitable for Amazon’s stringent standards is a daily task. But shooting these slippers presented an entirely unique set of challenges we had to overcome.
Job Description for Slippers Photography
Each pair of slippers needed to be shot from two angles: overhead and straight on. Sounds easy enough, right? We thought so too until we began…

Amazon product photography requires a white background. Because the tiny, fluffy hairs on the slippers were varied in color, some of those hairs and the furry effect started disappearing into that white background altogether and we lost image quality.
Advanced lighting techniques for slippers photography were required. This is in our comfort zone and we quickly set up different lights. But the serious slipper preparation time required was something my studio was new to ???.
My assistant, Emma Dawson, and I spent hours styling each pair of slippers for the shoot as if they were human models?!
Firstly, we had to brush the furry slippers. Once they were fluffed and looking good, we had to style the furry slippers — not a common task during shoe photography!
But our hairstyling skills weren’t finished there, we also decided to “blow dry” the slippers using an air duster. Another bonus to this approach was that any dust on the shoes was blown away and the products looked at their very best.
We really gave those fluffy slippers the five-star treatment. But we had to, we knew that if the images of the slippers did not look like the slippers did in real life, our client could have trouble with their customers. With Amazon product photography, it is very important to make sure that your images provide a true likeness of the goods being sold.
If buyers receive something that bears little resemblance to the image that sold them the product, they will complain and most likely ask for a refund. Therefore, it was on us to prep those slippers so well that their true colors showed.
The furry slippers weren’t our only challenge though. Some of these slippers were sold as part of a wedding accessories bundle and our client wanted them shot with the mirror that was also part of the bundle.
As any photographer will tell you, mirrors are one of the hardest things to shoot given their reflective qualities. However, this is a challenge my team and I had faced before so we were less concerned about the mirrors than the fluffy slippers!
All told, it took us three days to shoot the images and just under seven days to retouch every photo our client needed and make sure these images were perfect.
The result? A happy client and happy purchasers who received slippers that looked exactly like the images that prompted them to buy in the first place. And we certainly think that is something worth brushing, styling, and blow-drying 100 pairs of fluffy slippers for.
