Industrial Product Photography on Location
Quite often, ISA AYDIN is called upon to complete an industrial product photoshoot on white backgrounds. This is because many online retailers and e-commerce platforms have a stringent set of requirements that sellers must comply with when posting images or videos of a product.
Sometimes these industrial products are simply too big, too bulky or too heavy to easily move to our studios for a photoshoot. When that happens, ISA AYDIN completes the work on location. This is easier for our clients and much easier on all of our backs than trying to lug around weighty industrial equipment.
So, when we received a call from a client who needed high-quality images of industrial ovens, we knew it was best for us to travel to the product instead of the product travelling to us.
So, we travelled there!
The ovens were located in the south of New Jersey in the manufacturer’s plant. We loaded up our trusty vehicles and wrapped ourselves up warm for the hour and a half drive to the location. We might have been travelling a little slower than normal because of the wind and the winter chill buffeting our cars.
Once we arrived and had taken stock of the ovens, we knew we needed some serious lifting power to move the product around and to lift them. We enlisted the manufacturer’s forklift and forklift driver to help us with this task.
After we had the behemoth ovens in position, we removed all the dust with air dusters and industrial wind blowers. We polished the products until they shone and looked spick and span. Never let it be said that ISA AYDIN shies away from the dirty work!
Shooting
The team shot the now shining ovens after setting up a substantial amount of equipment and lights. A lot of lights because of the sheer size of the products. We sorted out our wires, power connection, stands, and every single bit of camera kit we needed. We were just missing one thing — something to eat.
Luckily a hungry and enterprising assistant scoured the local area and found the whole team something to eat, a necessity when shooting on location for a significant portion of the day.
We shot the ovens with our camera tethered to computers so that the client could see all the tiny details in real-time. Our client was also with us the whole time, and let us know which angles he wanted shown and so on.
Reflections on Reflective Ovens
The whole day ran really smoothly, our one challenge was that ovens are spectacularly reflective inside and light bounces from one wall to the other and back again. These multiple interior surfaces made eliminating glare hard but we got through it with some advanced lighting techniques.
The winter photoshoot and the drive were worth it because when our client received the 36 final high-resolution images he ordered he was extremely happy with the result. And ISA AYDIN learned a thing or two about shooting inside ovens!
